Restoring the Quiet Within the Body, Mind & Spirit
Discover the Restorative Nature of Reiki
Reiki is a gentle, soothing energy practice that invites your body, mind and spirit into a calmer, more harmonious state. It offers a moment to step away from the noise of life and reconnect with the quieter, wiser part of yourself that often gets drowned out.
During a session, hands are placed lightly on or just above the body to support the natural flow of energy and encourage a sense of inner ease. Many people describe the experience as deeply relaxing, nurturing and a calming presence that helps them feel supported, grounded and more connected to themselves.
You remain fully clothed throughout, and there is no pressure or manipulation. Reiki doesn’t push or force; it meets you exactly where you are, allowing your energy to settle into a more balanced rhythm.
When your spirit feels tired, your emotions feel full, or life feels energetically “off-center,” Reiki offers a soft return to yourself, a quiet space to breathe, release and gently realign with your inner landscape. It’s suitable for anyone seeking emotional ease, energetic reset or simply a peaceful moment to unwind and reconnect with themselves.
A Brief History of Reiki
Reiki originated in Japan in the early 20th century and was founded by Mikao Usui. His approach drew inspiration from older Japanese healing traditions, meditation practices and spiritual philosophy. Usui developed Reiki as a gentle method of working with the body’s natural energy, offering a way for people to support their own wellbeing, inner balance and sense of connection.
After its beginnings in Japan, Reiki was passed on through Usui’s students and later through practitioners who continued his teachings. Over time, it spread across the world and became a widely recognised complementary practice used to support relaxation, emotional ease and spiritual awareness.
Today, Reiki is practised internationally and continues to honour Usui’s original principles: simplicity, compassion, and the belief that creating stillness can benefit both body and spirit.
Clients often experience a range of benefits from Reiki, including:
Reduce Stress and Promote Relaxation
Life’s busy pace can leave you feeling tense or disconnected. Reiki offers a gentle energetic pause, a moment to centre yourself and invite a sense of inner harmony. In a session, you’re welcomed into a peaceful space to relax, recharge and soften the edges of your day. Many people describe Reiki as a calming, spiritual practice that helps them reconnect within, supporting clarity, ease and a quieter mind.
Emotional Balance and Inner Peace
Emotions can build quietly or appear all at once, leaving you feeling full, unsettled or simply not yourself. Reiki offers a gentle, supportive way to bring your emotional landscape into balance, helping you soften and release what no longer serves you, whether that’s worry, sadness or feeling stuck. Many people find that Reiki encourages a sense of calm, peace and clarity, leaving them feeling more centred, grounded and spiritually connected.
Support with Discomfort and Physical Tension
Aches, tightness or physical discomfort can build up from stress, posture, injury or simply the pace of everyday life. Reiki doesn’t replace medical treatment or hands-on therapies, but it can offer gentle support alongside them. Many people notice they feel lighter, more at ease and less bound up in tension after a session, with their whole system softening into a more relaxed state.
Better Sleep and Deeper Rest
Quality sleep makes all the difference, but winding down isn’t always easy. Reiki creates a calm, peaceful space that quietens the nervous system, eases emotional load and helps the body unwind. Many people find this deeper relaxation supports easier sleep and makes their rest feel more restorative, leaving them feeling refreshed in the days that follow.
Support During Recovery and Life’s Challenges
Reiki is a gentle practice that works safely alongside medical care, creating a peaceful environment for rest and relaxation. Many people choose Reiki during times of recovery or change, whether they are healing after surgery, navigating a long-term challenge or simply feeling depleted. It can help you feel more supported, resilient and resourced as you move through whatever your body and life are asking of you. Reiki complements your wellbeing journey by offering space to breathe, settle and support yourself through life’s challenges.
Increased Self-Awareness and Intuition
Reiki is more than a physical practice; it’s also about tuning into your inner world. During sessions, many people notice they gain fresh clarity or a deeper understanding of what they’re feeling or moving through in their lives. This enhanced self-awareness can feel empowering, helping you trust your intuition and make choices that honour your true needs and values.
Spiritual Growth & Deeper Connection
For those exploring their spiritual side, Reiki offers a gentle way to deepen your connection with yourself and the world around you. It isn’t tied to any specific belief system, so it can sit easily alongside your own values and outlook, wherever you are on your spiritual journey. Many people find that Reiki helps them feel more connected, grounded and aligned with their personal values, sense of purpose and inner direction.
Reiki FAQs
Is Reiki safe?
Reiki is generally considered gentle and non-invasive and can be offered with light touch or no touch at all. It’s suitable for most people, including those who prefer to avoid pressure-based techniques.
How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies from person to person. Some feel benefits after just one session, while others may find ongoing sessions more helpful for deeper support. Your Reiki journey is unique, they can be one off session or a series of regular sessions, we’ll work together to create a plan that suits your individual needs.
Can I have Reiki during pregnancy?
Reiki is generally considered gentle and non‑invasive, and many people choose to receive it during pregnancy as a way to relax and feel more at ease. It can be offered with light touch or no touch at all, depending on what feels comfortable for you.
During the first trimester, some people prefer to wait as an extra precaution, especially if they have medical concerns or a history of miscarriage. If you are unsure, it is always best to check with your midwife or healthcare provider before booking.
Can I receive Reiki if I have a pacemaker?
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive practice, and many people with pacemakers choose to receive it because it involves light touch or no touch at all, and no equipment, pressure or manipulation. There is no evidence to suggest Reiki interferes with implanted devices. If you have any concerns, it’s always a good idea to check with your GP or Consultant before booking. Please also let me know about your device so I can avoid working directly over the implant area and adapt the session in a way that feels completely comfortable for you.
Do I need to remove my hearing aids during Reiki?
You’re welcome to keep your hearing aids in if that feels best for you, but many people choose to remove them or turn them off during Reiki. This helps prevent any feedback or unexpected sounds and allows you to settle more comfortably into the quieter, more restful nature of the session. Just let me know what feels right for you on the day.
How long is a session?
I offer both 30 minute and 60 minute Reiki sessions, so you can choose what feels right for your energy, your schedule and the level of support you’d like.
A 30 minute session offers a simple, gentle way to pause and reconnect with yourself. It’s ideal if you’re new to Reiki or need a moment of calm in a busy day. Even in this shorter window, many people notice their breath deepening, their mind quietening and a subtle sense of ease returning to their body and energy.
A full hour allows you to settle more deeply into the experience. With unhurried time, your system can soften layer by layer, inviting a steadier calm and a stronger sense of inner balance. This longer session can feel especially supportive during emotionally full periods, times of transition or moments when life feels energetically heavy and you need space to rest and realign.
Is Reiki suitable for children?
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive practice that can be adapted easily for children, with the session length and approach guided by how your child feels on the day. Many parents choose Reiki for their children as a calm, nurturing space where they can pause, relax and feel supported.
How Reiki may support your child
Parents often notice that Reiki sessions can:
- Encourage relaxation and a sense of calm
- Help children feel more settled after a busy or emotional day
- Support confidence and gentle emotional expression
- Offer quiet time that can make it easier to unwind or settle towards sleep
- Contribute to an overall sense of wellbeing in both body and energy
Reiki can be especially appealing for children who are sensitive, easily overwhelmed, or going through changes at home or school. It’s a soft, supportive experience that meets them exactly where they are.
What happens during a children’s Reiki session?
Reiki for children is completely flexible and shaped around what helps them feel safe, calm, and comfortable. We will chat beforehand and agree together on what feels best for them.
- Older children who are happy to lie down can relax on the therapy couch with a cosy blanket. Soft, calming music can be played, or we can keep the room quiet if they prefer.
- Younger children who are not comfortable lying down can sit on a parent’s lap.
- Babies are usually held or can lie with their parent on the therapy couch.
Do I have to stay with my child?
For anyone under 18, a parent or guardian needs to stay in the room throughout the session. You are welcome to bring a book or simply relax while your child enjoys their time. The aim is always to create a space where your child feels secure, supported, and able to settle in whatever way feels right for them. Sessions are taken gently and at their pace, so the experience feels positive and reassuring for you both.
Can Reiki be used alongside other treatments?
Yes. Reiki is a complementary practice and can be used alongside medical care, physical therapy and other holistic approaches. It isn’t a replacement for treatment, but many people choose it as an extra layer of support, a calm, nurturing space that works with the rest of their wellbeing journey. Reiki can help you feel more settled, centred and resourced while other treatments support your body in different ways.
Is there anything I need to do before a Reiki session?
No special preparation is needed. Simply come as you are, wearing something comfortable and allowing yourself a little time to slow down. You don’t need to do anything in advance, just arrive with an open mind and a willingness to relax, and I’ll take care of the rest.
What happens after a Reiki session?
After your session, it can help to drink some water, take things gently and simply notice how you feel. Some people find that sensations, emotions or dreams continue to unfold over the next few days, so you may like to jot down any thoughts, feelings or dreams in a diary or journal. It’s a soft way of staying connected to whatever arises as your energy settles.
Do I need to believe in Reiki to benefit from it?
You do not have to hold any particular beliefs to try Reiki. You are welcome to come with curiosity or even scepticism; the focus is simply on giving you a quiet space to rest, and many people find the experience calming whether or not they have a spiritual view of it.
